To Members of the UN Security Council, 2011
Your Excellencies
I urge all members of the United Nations Security Council to recommend Palestine’s admission as a state to the General Assembly.
The State of Palestine has met all prerequisites to statehood listed in the Montevideo Convention, which is the 1933 treaty that sets out the rights and duties of states.
There are no moral and legal reasons to oppose Palestine’s admission, as membership in the United Nations is open to all peace-loving states.
Ultimately, this is a historic moment for the United Nations to decide which force is the greater in determining the future for Palestinian people and in resolving peace in the Middle East:
international influence and law or Israeli military power.
The world is watching and expecting respect for international law to be upheld and a recommendation to the General Assembly that Palestine be admitted to full membership in the United Nations.
Yours sincerely
